It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competitors' boxy units, this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot vacuum that vacuums and mops that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic hoovers vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot vacuum that vacuums and mops we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas are.

It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map.
