World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all the upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the sheer number of perks that need to be changed in order to upgrade an item.

Item level is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

Using the item level can help players compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor can be done using the level of the item.

On your PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the value of an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different values, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant part of what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to one weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.

Upgrades to the item add by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs.

Another way to change the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item additional damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or decreasing the cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.

Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.

This is another aspect that could be altered by introducing an option to upgrade item the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. But, like base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison will not show all the stats that could be either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade item chances that increase with each item level. They can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be made or spawn by using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items are available at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the chance that an upgrade item will fail can't be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
