WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used to upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in every major city, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up-to-date.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current level of the item being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. Players can purchase them from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the preview of an Item Level upgrade's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item upgrader kit slot and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require various methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less even if they are part of a different gear set.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and simplest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their gear to the highest possible level for all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's Best item upgrade to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available and save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially applicable to items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
